Mmmm. I like pickles. I like to chop them up and eat them with a fork. Let the weirdness begin, I know. For anyone who likes pickles, I have a special secret for you. They are just cucumbers. I realize this is not a shocking revelation to many of you. But let's think about what makes a cucumber a pickle. Drying them out in the sun? No...that's where raisins come from. You make pickles by putting the cucumber in special pickling brine. You can make this brine. You can buy this brine. OR....you can realize that when all the pickles in the jar have left you and gone to the place where pickles go....that you now have a jar FULL of this special brine! Just grab another cucumber and slice it or chop it however you prefer. Put it in your special jar and wait a few days. You don't need any magic words or incantations for this to work, but if you would like to use them, go right ahead. After a few days you now have a brand new jar of pickles. Yeay!

yeah try explaining this to a little 4 year old. because he doesn't like cucumbers and he does like pickles and he just doesn't get it.
My dad does this all the time. if your special juice gets low, just add in some vinegar and a little salt. Yummy :)
It's funny you posted this, because I did just this trick this week. My 21-year-old had bought himself a jar of pickles (he even labelled them: James's pickles) and when the pickles went to pickle heaven, I remembered the trick of putting sliced cucumbers in the brine. I happened to have a half cucumber I needed to use up. James liked his 'new' pickles, too! BTW...Becca Jo shouldn't feel bad that her 4-year-old can't make the cucumber-pickle connection. My adult son didn't know, either!
I totally did not know you could do that!! Thanks for sharing! :)
